Work with ORB

We’re hiring for both stores: our home in Oregon City and the new King City flagship, opening in November. There are part-time, full-time and per-event roles.

We’re building ORB a bit differently than most card shops. We want ORB to feel less like a counter and more like a home base: a place where families feel welcome, first-timers get taught instead of ignored, events are run like real shows, and rewards matter more than hype.

So we’re hiring for specific skills, and card shop experience isn’t one of them. If you’ve worked a busy restaurant floor, coached a youth team, run a stage, built a following on camera, or kept a warehouse humming, you might be exactly who we need.

We expect a lot of interest from people who love this hobby as much as we do, and we can’t hire everyone. If we don’t move forward with you, please don’t take it the wrong way. It almost always means we’re looking for a particular skill set right now, not that you aren’t a great person or a great player. We’d still love to see you at our tables, and there are other ways to be part of ORB (see below).

What we’re looking for

  • Hospitality

You read a room, remember names, and make strangers feel welcome. Restaurants, coffee, hotels and retail all count.

  • Teaching and working with kids

Coaching, tutoring, camp, childcare or youth programs. A lot of our players are new or young.

  • Hosting and stage presence

You’re comfortable on a mic in front of 100 people, or you’d like to be.

  • On-camera and content

Streaming, video, photography or social media. We’re starting to film events and spotlight players.

  • Organization and process

Warehouse, shipping or operations. You like a clean system and you follow it.

  • Comfortable with technology

Our counter, events and inventory all run on modern tools. You pick up new apps quickly.

Card knowledge? Nice to have, never required. We’ll teach you the games, the products and our tools. What we can’t teach is being the kind of person a player is glad to see sitting across the table.

Open roles

Store host and buying

The face of the counter: welcome people, ring up sales and keep the floor looking great. You’ll also comp and buy cards: look up recent sales to price singles, value trade-ins and collections, and make fair offers. Card knowledge helps here, and we’ll train you on our process.

Events and Play

Run weekly game nights and prereleases: setup, check-in, pairings, the store TV, and making first-timers feel at home.

  • Both stores

Packing and shipping

Pack online orders carefully, the ORB way, from single cards to sealed boxes. A good fit for detail-minded people who like a steady routine.

  • Full time

Content and streaming

Help build ORB’s show from day one: live top-cut coverage, player spotlights and recaps. Breaks at ORB are rewards for players who earned them, never a hype machine, and always family-friendly.

  • Part time
  • Contract

Tournament production

Help present our biggest events as a tournament organizer, head judge, or on the stream and casting desk.

  • Contract
  • Per event

Judging

Certified judges for Magic, Pokémon, Riftbound and more. Not certified yet? We’ll help you get there and cover the fees.

  • Contract

How it works

  1. Fill out the short application below. It takes about five minutes.
  2. If it looks like a fit, we’ll invite you to a short conversation at the store.
  3. Next comes a paid shadow shift, so you can see the job before you commit and we can see you in action.
  4. Either way, we’ll let you know. We read every note, even if it takes us a little while during opening season.

Apply

No résumé needed. Fields marked * are required. Your application goes straight to Mike and Brandon.

Questions people ask

I’ve never worked in a card shop. Should I still apply?

Yes. That’s the point of this page. We hire for people skills and reliability, and we teach the rest.

I know cards really well but don’t have the skills listed. Should I apply?

You’re welcome to, and tell us what you’re great at. Just know we’re filling specific skill sets right now. If we pass, it isn’t a judgment on you, and the Ambassadors program might be a better fit.

Do I have to play the games?

No. Curiosity helps, and you’ll pick up a lot just by being around our players.

Which store would I work at?

Tell us your preference. We’re staffing Oregon City now and building the King City team ahead of the November opening.

What about working with kids?

Anyone who works at kids’ tables or events completes a background check, and ORB pays for it.

What’s the pay?

It depends on the role and your experience. Every role starts at $20 an hour or more, including part-time retail, and goes up from there.
